XC Skiing in Central Park: An Iconic Engagement Shoot in Snowy NYC

Sometimes the best shoots aren't planned.

I was stuck in New York after a wedding, snowed in by February's blizzard with nowhere to be. Amy and Grant were spending their last week in the city before a cross-country move to San Francisco — and they wanted to mark it the way they always do New York winters: on skis in Central Park.

What started as a lucky connection turned into one of my favorite shoots. Documentary at its core, a little editorial around the edges, and edited in the warm, grainy, filmic way a morning like that deserved.

Central Park had just been blanketed in snow. The morning light was beautiful quiet. It felt like the perfect send-off from the city.
